Fresh from a no. 1 resort ranking in Conde Nast Traveler’s reader poll and a record season for visitors, Telluride is opening its skies this winter with a 20% increase in destination flights. Doubling service from airports in the greater New York City area, the tony Colorado town will attract Texans with a 46% increase in Dallas flights, while adding new service from San Francisco and Phoenix-Sky Harbor.
Telluride Ski & Golf President Greg Pack called the new service a game changer for a top ski town looking to shed its image as being hard to reach. The nearest major airports, Denver and Albuquerque International, are more than 300 miles away.
“We already have the easiest ski town to get around in with our two free gondolas and free public transit system,” he said. “So making it easier for our guests to get here falls in line with our core strategy — make it easy for our guests.”
With regular visitors that include Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise and Warren Buffet, Telluride attracts powderhounds with its towering terrain and more leisurely visitors with a true ski town atmosphere, top restaurants and upscale shopping.
